How I Turned to Motivational Education to Give Impetus to My Journey
“That life is a challenge is stating the obvious,
which though as Khalil Gibran described it, ‘is never seen until someone
expresses it simply’. Everything about
life is a challenging question whose answer demands action. When you get up every day you’re always
called to action in one way or the other.
It’s not always that you’ll easily figure-out what to do, and neither
will you always find the perfect solution.
This makes the entire journey of life hugely challenging, demanding, and
overwhelming at times, living just a little window of joyous experience. However, the sooner one comprehends this intricate
nature of life, and as well that the answer to nearly all challenges is in
learning, the better prepared one can be.
It’s when you learn from those who succeeded where you’re struggling
that your journey begins to peak, as you become wiser, inspired’, and motivated. I once got overwhelmed myself, and that’s
when I sought for wisdom through motivational education on personal
development, to find that bearing to my true north!”
How I Turned to Motivational Education to Give Impetus to My Journey!
Besides working on my project, i.e. the
Centre for Knowledge (CfK), on motivation and personal development, I also used
to provide lecture services to the Department of Geology at the University of
Botswana. I spent a couple of semesters
out in the field teaching basic field techniques to geology students to help
them develop skills or ways to collect and present data from rocks. As you may be aware, geology is one of those
professions that allow us humans to be able to read from the rock record, as
well as determine significant parts of the rocky earth that are pertinent to
human life. I have been a practicing geologist
since 1988 when I graduated from the University of Botswana and went on to make
contributions as a public servant for about three decades.
A Burning Platform At-Cause!
It was in 2008 when I decided to go
full force into motivation and personal development. I took a decision then to resign from the
organisation I worked for through a period spanning twenty years. I have had many people ask me at my seminars
why and how I changed from geology into personal development. I don’t though see myself as having changed
professions at all, but I only added a missing link to help me grow and become
a better contributor in any engagement I choose to partake in. At the time I resigned from my earlier
employment it was becoming increasingly difficult to develop effective work-teams
or to find genuinely enthusiastic people, eager to show-up at work for just one
thing…….to serve. There were just too
many bottlenecks and other lesser relevant issues that made the workplace
dysfunctional, regarding personal productivity and self-fulfilment, in service
delivery. Almost every work team-member was
unhappy about something or issues relating to work. This meant that no matter how keen and eager
one was to become relevant to work, it was always difficult to make a winning
team.
Making The Switch!
So, I thought that the best thing for
me was not to continue coming to work as if just for a salary, but to start
something that I believed could influence a change of culture in the workplace,
as well as in life in general. In my
view, motivation and personal development was the only answer, and not a salary
hike, for I had seen in the past many years of my employment there, people,
including myself, being promoted or paid more, but that never led to any marked
improvement in personal and workplace productivity. Instead, the bottlenecks, issues, and
complaints continued, and still it was difficult to make great work teams. I therefore turned to motivation and personal
development to give others a greater sense of adequacy and self-belief in their
quest to become relevant at work and in life in general.
The Drawcard!
Lessons on personal development allow
everyone to recognize their in-born abilities to excel in all aspects of life, and
further powers one with the drive to act and learn how to draw the best from
within. Such lessons are anchored on the
concept of purpose, mission, and vision, which helps build
complete and effective humans that knows how to self-drive and
accomplish results needed, both in their lives and as well as in the lives of
others. The personal strategic
foundation of purpose is key in the development of a sense of meaning
in anybody’s life, and meaning, once found will always create a sense of meaningfulness,
importance, and happiness, in the life of an individual, no
matter where they work or how much they earn.
Purpose ignites an endless supply of natural motivation, and this
is what is most desirable to set-up a pool of greatly inspired, effective,
efficient, and productive work-teams, across the board.
P.S. Motivation, though seemingly
commonly undervalued, and little appreciated, due to overwhelming
life-challenges, remains the critical fuel needed all-round to drive
individuals to take part in acts that serve life, irrespective of what’s in it
for them. This is what I had in mind back
in 2008 when I resigned in my public service post, and it is the reason I
created the Centre for Knowledge (CfK), and why I provide motivational
education on personal development.
