5 Ways Books Can Help Your Life to Blossom!
“As a former early-child learner, you may recall that
reading, mostly from a book, was one of those tasks your schoolteacher made
sure you cannot avoid, no matter how much you struggled with it or hated it. You were taught to read because reading is
one of the critical pathways to attaining some life-changing and life-saving
knowledge. So,
when it comes to reading books then, it isn’t just about
simply reading books, but it’s much more about turning the information
presented in books into knowledge, through understanding what you’re
reading. When you truly understand what
you’re reading, and you can keep it somewhere within your mental space, then
you have knowledge. As the wise from
yesteryear often taught, “knowledge is power”, and I believe that the real
power of knowledge is to create the future you desire. In other words, whatever you desire, all you
need is to learn about it and how to make it a reality and then apply the
knowledge. This is why I personally love
and read, not only books, but also other sources of vital written information.”
5 Ways Books Can Help Your Life to Blossom!
Although I never really liked reading at school this though
changed drastically over the years for whatever reason. Perhaps it was because the learning process
then heavily relied on reading, and books were the main source of reading
material. From thenceforth, books became
the kingpin of both my professional and personal development, and I have since
made a great deal of value picks that I wish to share with you here. It’s worth noting that several decades since
my first encounter with books, when the few available were only found at schools,
there has been massive amounts produced, and in a variety of easily accessible
formats. Below are some of the notable life-enhancing
ways I believe you can benefit from making books a part of your journey in life.
1. A friend in need, a friend indeed!
Just as the wise of yesteryear
saw it, “a friend in need is a friend indeed”, and there is no doubt that
amongst the many books written there’s one just made for you. Remember, each book represents ideas, thoughts,
views etc., of the author or others, who are individuals like you. You may find
that the thoughts and ideas shared matches well with your own, which makes you
and the authors of these books “birds of a feather”. You’ll certainly feel more inclined to take their
advice whenever challenges come up along your journey. At some point these books you’re finding so
helpful will cease to just take the form of books, instead, you’ll see them in
the image of their authors. That you’re finding
benefit in these books, you’ll make certain to have them somewhere in a shelf
or folder, for example, for ease of access whenever you need advice. The good thing about books is that they won’t
tell you off, or shout at you, or judge you, in the event you disagree, and
there’s no possibility for a real conflict or dented human relations.
2. An opportunity
for continuous and life-long learning!
As you may be aware,
the world we live in is ever-changing, and this always brings in new and
challenging ways of living. Equally,
there’s never a stage in life where anyone can be said to have learnt enough. So,
to be equal to the many unfolding challenges one must adopt the habit for a
continuous and life-long learning. I
find that most books, unlike other advanced formats of information dissemination,
carry core and foundational, as well evergreen, lessons. This makes books a truly valuable opportunity
for learning, going into the future. As
part of my wellness maintenance strategy, I have a regular schedule for reading
books, and I always find myself gaining confidence in handling life’s
challenges. Surely, you must have
moments where things just don’t add-up, even when you seek for the assistance
of others, and you wonder what else to do.
Well, many of the answers you need require that you continue to learn,
particularly the basic lessons. The
latter, no doubt, you’ll find in books.
3. A catalyst for creativity and innovation!
Sometimes back in the
early 2000, while engaged in my geology profession, and faced with the common
problems of geological mapping, I read a book titled “Principles of
Sedimentary Basin Analysis”. In this
book, I came across a short subsection of a chapter which provided me with a
great idea for creating solutions that meet certain needs in geological works. So, this idea then from this book I read,
ignited my creative and innovative abilities, which resulted in my doctoral degree
in a previously less familiar sub-sector of the profession. To date, there are many people from around
the globe who utilize the outcome of my doctorate studies to further their own
quest for solutions, in relevant fields of geological sciences. So, you see, just by reading a book related
to that which you seek, there’s always a possibility for a breakthrough of some
kind. The many brave and brilliant ideas
for success, you carry within, have their igniters in one or the other book you
must read.
4. A leverage for personal strategic planning!
Surely, given the
foundational nature of the lessons found in books, and as well their evergreen
nature, the more you read these books the more you’ll begin to see
possibilities for developing your own tailor-made blueprint for the future you
desire. When it comes to truly getting
value out of the experience of life, foundational knowledge on what matters
most is key. Your strategy for success
will only stand when anchored on the latter.
Consider how your primary education was anchored on learning those foundational
skills of learning how to learn, like reading, listening, asking etc., so you
can master the ability to continue learning on your own throughout your journey
of life. Similarly, if you read books,
you get foundational and evergreen guidance on how to organize and manage your
life for effectiveness. So, reading books
gives you leverage to set yourself for a greatly inspired and successful life,
on your terms.
5. A fountain of motivation and inspiration!
As Dr. M. Scott Peck
enlightens, in his book, The Road Less Travelled, “Life is
difficult. This is a great truth, one of
the greatest truths. It is a great truth
because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult - once
we truly understand and accept it - then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that
life is difficult no longer matters”.
So then, life is indeed difficult as you may well have already experienced
in life, but you have a chance to remove difficult from your path. Your chance entails reading books such as
this one of Dr. M. Scott Peck. Such books,
your friends indeed, are there to provide you with a fountain of motivation and
inspiration, so your problems cease to matter.
P.S. See books as a record of the experiences of others,
who went through the path you’re on right now.
Read and study them to take whatever value may assist you to get your
life ahead. Thank you so much for taking
a moment to visit this blog and for reading the post. I hope you did make some value picks.
